Waterloo faced Old Cats the second week in a row, this time it was held at superb surface of Manor? A Good comfortable start for the home side as we really controlled the game but never really produced any clear cut chances to take the lead. Half a chance fell to R Cain from a Bob ball corner kick but Richie just couldn’t get it under control. There wasn’t much more entertainment of the half, except for the return of Marley (only on the touchline) came down to watch, in a ‘ded ard way’ with his can of cider and packet of space raders!
But Waterloo found the goal to break the stalemate shortly inside the second half, as the pressure was forced upon Cats, Sumpter superbly opened his Waterloo account on his first start for the club, he dribbled down the left hand side to take on their centre half, with the ball bobbling because of a ditch in the pitch (someone said Ian had been digging for Dinosaurs the night before??) And the keeper off his line, sumpter brilliantly lifted it over him 25 yards out!
However we expect to see scouts down at out next game as their bitter centre half said ‘if he f*kin meant that he shouldn’t be in this league!’ ha-ha great stuff!
But Waterloo let their lead slip, a long throw for their right hand side caused problems for the waterloo defence! And their central midfielder rose above everyone to nod the ball into the corner! It was level! From their only chance of the half!
But Waterloo got straight down the other end to put their attacking ideas into action! A bit of link up play from Williams to Richie who flicked a threw ball to C Cain who chased the ball into the box to take it passed the full back, who blatantly barged me over and finally we were awarded a penalty!
Mr Griffin took the usual responsibility and even with his chums on the side line giving him uncalled for stick, to mount the pressure, he still converted…JUST ha-ha the keeper guessed right! But the ball was squeezed underneath him! And Waterloo were back in front!
Waterloo were able to hang on for the victory even with a couple of scares from set pieces floating in Waterloo defended brilliantly and survived the pressure!
Another 3 points well deserved in the bag! Puts us in a good position going into next week’s tough game away at Heygreen! But with the strength of our squad, theres no reason why another 3 points isn’t on the cards!
